Pocket spring, hybrid, memory foam and adjustable

Australian mattress sizes are not the same as American or European ones, and that single fact causes more expensive mistakes than any specification. An Australian queen is 1530 by 2030 millimetres; a US queen is narrower and shorter, and a UK king is different again. Buy an imported size and your fitted sheets, mattress protector and bed base will all be slightly wrong. Everything on this page is built or specified to Australian dimensions, so your existing frame and linen fit. Our mattress size guide lists every Australian size with the room clearance you need around the bed.

The second decision is construction. Pocket springs breathe well and support heavier bodies without sagging in the middle third, which is where cheap mattresses fail first. Memory foam and latex contour closely and isolate movement almost completely, making them the right answer for light sleepers who wake when a partner turns over. Hybrids split the difference with springs underneath and foam on top, and they run cooler than all-foam beds — a real consideration in Brisbane, Darwin or a Perth summer. Firmness is personal, but as a guide, side sleepers usually prefer medium, back sleepers medium-firm, and stomach sleepers or heavier bodies firm. Every mattress here includes a comfort trial of at least 100 nights, free insured Australian delivery, and a manufacturer warranty of ten years.

Mattresses — frequently asked questions

Are your mattresses Australian sizes?

Yes, every mattress is specified in Australian sizing — queen 1530 x 2030 mm, king 1830 x 2030 mm — so Australian sheets, protectors and bed bases fit correctly.

How long is the comfort trial?

At least 100 nights on every mattress, and 120 on Koala. Sleep on it, and if the feel is wrong we arrange a free comfort exchange or a refund with free return collection anywhere in Australia.

How firm should my mattress be?

As a starting point: side sleepers medium, back sleepers medium-firm, stomach sleepers and heavier bodies firm. If you and your partner disagree, an adjustable or flippable model lets you change the feel without a return.

Do you remove my old mattress?

Yes. Add old-mattress removal and recycling at checkout for A$79 in metropolitan areas, and we take the old bed away when we deliver the new one.

Will a mattress delivered in a box feel the same as one delivered flat?

It will, once fully expanded — allow 24 to 72 hours. Compressed delivery is easier to carry up stairs and through narrow hallways; flat delivery avoids the wait. Both are covered by the same warranty.

Mattresses buyer guide

Australian mattress sizes explained

Single 920 x 1880 mm, king single 1070 x 2030 mm, double 1370 x 1880 mm, queen 1530 x 2030 mm, king 1830 x 2030 mm and super king 2030 x 2030 mm. Note that a double is shorter than a queen, which surprises taller buyers — if anyone in the bed is over 180 cm, choose a 2030 mm long size.

Measure the room, not just the bed: allow 600 mm on each side you walk down and 900 mm in front of a wardrobe door.

Spring, foam, latex or hybrid

Pocket springs give the best airflow and edge support, and hold up best under heavier bodies. Memory foam gives the deepest pressure relief and near-total motion isolation but traps more heat. Latex is bouncier, cooler and extremely durable. Hybrids combine springs with a foam or latex comfort layer, and are the most broadly satisfying choice for couples with different preferences.

Warranty, sagging and consumer rights

A ten-year warranty typically covers sagging beyond a defined depth (often 25 mm) measured with no weight on the bed, plus manufacturing faults. It does not cover comfort preference — that is what the trial is for. Use a supportive base with slats no more than 75 mm apart, or you may void the warranty. Separately, the Australian Consumer Law entitles you to a remedy if a mattress fails to be of acceptable quality or does not last a reasonable time for its price, regardless of the warranty period.
