E-bike range estimator

Claimed range figures come from ideal laboratory conditions. This estimator uses a realistic 14 watt-hours per kilometre baseline for an 85 kilogram rider on rolling Australian terrain in a mid assist mode, then adjusts for your inputs.

Estimated range

29 km

That is about 17.1 Wh per kilometre. Plan trips around 23 km to keep a 20 per cent reserve, which means a round-trip commute of up to 12 km each way.

E-bike range questions

Why is my real range lower than the claimed range?

Manufacturers quote range in the lowest assist mode, on flat ground, with a light rider and no wind. Hills, headwinds, rider weight, cargo, tyre pressure and cold weather all reduce it.

Does riding faster use more battery?

Yes, considerably. Air resistance rises with the square of speed, so sitting at the 25 km/h assist limit uses far more energy per kilometre than cruising at 20 km/h.

How should I plan a commute?

Take the estimate below, subtract 20 per cent as a reserve, and confirm your round trip fits. If it doesn't, charge at work or choose a larger battery.
